SecureMail (SecMX) -- A way to ensure that you can communicate with anyone using secure email

Welcome

Government agencies and other organisations have been looking for a convenient and low cost way to communicate securely with their customers using email.

This website describes SecureMail (SecMx) -- a standard way to ensure that email is sent and received securely.  For most organisations, SecureMail will require no additional equipment, only a change to their system configurations and policies.

  • SecureMail recommends servers have a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record and SenderID, so they can be authenticated as an approved sender of the message.
  • SecureMail recommends servers use Transport Layer Security (TLS) to protect email integrity and confidentiality.  Most servers have TLS capability, but it is not always turned on.

For more detailed information about how to configure your system for secure mail, read our SecureMail configuration page.
